Market Opens: Indian indices opened in the green on March 17 with Nifty above 17,200 on the back of positive global cues.

At 09:16 IST, the Sensex was up 819.79 points or 1.44% at 57636.44, and the Nifty was up 227.90 points or 1.34% at 17203.20. About 1676 shares have advanced, 331 shares declined, and 66 shares are unchanged.

HDFC, UltraTech Cement, Axis Bank, Shree Cements and Bajaj Finance were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers were ONGC and IOC.
